Richard initially trained at Newport Film School in Wales as a film practitioner and film editor before joining BBC Bristol. In the mid 1990’s he worked as a radio reporter for BBC World Service before getting his first TV commission as a writer on BBC’s Doctors in 2003.  In 2007 he graduated with an MA in playwriting and penned his first stage play in 2010 which was nominated for Best Play by The Off West End Awards.   

In February 2014 Richard was selected for the Screen Yorkshire ‘Triangle’ scheme, which marries writers, directors and producers with film projects. He has professional relationships with leading production companies such as Red Planet, Rollem Productions and LA Productions in Liverpool plus a variety of freelance producers associated with broadcasters such as Sky and CBBC.   

Currently, he is developing a feature film project with producer Mike Berenger of MGB Media inspired by his schooldays.   

As an actor he has appeared in a range of TV productions and feature films including the last series of Downton Abbey and the soon to be released movie Their Finest starring Bill Nighy and Gemma Arterton.
