Gary J. Hewitt is an accomplished Screenwriter and Director. His award-winning short films, including Mia and Dig, have garnered over ten prestigious awards and screened at B.A.F.T.A & Oscar-recognised festivals, such as SQUIFF, Foyle Film Festival, & Carmarthen Bay Film Festival.

Gary’s second feature film, The Defender, was recently released on STV Player, and his writing portfolio has expanded to include three sold screenplays in 2025: Highland of the Dead, The Wicked Within, and The Rot in the Cabin.

Beyond his creative projects, Gary is dedicated to fostering the next generation of filmmakers. He teaches screenwriting for Refractive, an artist-led collective celebrating film and digital art, and has spent over six years with GMAC Film as their Film Engagement Manager.
